It is in the Motion

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (Genesis 17:1 KJV)

Envisage you as a 3 year old, walking a rural path with your father behind you. How ever can you get lost? He knows the way - each turn, every hidden ditch, each shadowy bend, every cunning intersection, any looming cliff, every distracting bird, every obstacle tree branch, every passer-by....

You hear his voice time and again call out to you to wait, turn left, look out for that tree branch ahead, jump over that spot, tiptoe over that area, run fast past that shrub... and as long as you follow his instructions, whether they make sense to you or not, you're having childlike fun and you get to the destination of his choice super-excited.

Imagine you as a 30 year old, walking that same path on which you have walked before your father countless times before in your growing years....

You no longer need him to point out the ditches hidden in the grass, or the right way to turn at the crossroads, you can move from point A to B, hearing his voice in your head without him physically walking behind you. You instinctively know when to duck under a looming tree branch, you know where you're meant to jump even when the ditch is not obvious... you just know. After all those years, he now walks inside of you. You have been made perfect on that pathway.

When God says "Walk before me and be perfect" He is saying Son, let's get going already, perfection will meet you in the motion.

Child of God, please don't fold your arms in despair and despondency, things do not have to be perfect for you to start what God has placed in your heart. Get on the move (with Father-God of course walking behind you) - perfection will meet you at some point on the road.

We do not wait until we're perfect, we WALK until we are. We do not obey because we are perfect, we obey to become perfect.

And you are fully grown because you belong to Christ, who is over every power and authority. (Colossians 2:10 CEV)
Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. (Isaiah 30:21 NLT)

KEEP WALKING. He is right behind you.
