THE TALK THAT WALKS

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (Genesis 17:1)

Why Walk Before Him?

1. It keeps you conscious of His presence. Because you depend on his voice not to get lost in the way, you intentionally listen for it. That way, you are always conscious of His presence behind you and in you, and you live every physical moment conscious of the I Am. What a life of glory!

2. It boosts your confidence. Confidence that emanates from the consciousness that God's got your back, is undaunted. A child whose father walks behind him does not run away from terror; he runs into his father's arms. A son who knows his father is nigh only laughs when another person confronts him with a fight. One who walks before His Father picks up the challenges he meets on the way and hands them over to his Daddy or would pause, step aside and let his father handle the obstacle. Your confidence level is directly proportional to the sound of the voice you 'hear behind you'.

3. You increasingly become like Christ. Walking before God means you depend on his Word per time. As we keep on doing that, his Word transforms us gradually (or drastically, depending on the walk). 'But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.' (2 Corinthians 3:18). The more we walk his Word, the more and more we look like him. That is why after a while, a child who has walked a particular track several times with his father showing the way, will soon be able to take the journey on his own without his father physically walking behind him. He deliberately and subconsciously walks the talk of his father and does what his father expects him to do. Walking with God makes your Christian life a habit, naturally. You become one with your confession of faith and have no need to prove that you are a child of God.

4. Progress is inevitable. You cannot walk with God and tend downward [Deuteronomy 28:13]. When God orders your steps you can rest assured that your life will turn out great, irrespective of prevailing negative or positive weather.

As Christians, the Holy Spirit has been given to us by the Father so we do not live our lives carelessly, but as directed by Him. [Ephesians 5:15, Romans 8:14].

In John 5:19 and John 12:49 we find the secret to the success of Jesus' walk and fulfilment of his purpose on earth - HE ONLY DID WHAT HE HEARD HIS FATHER SAY.

Walking with God is not perfected overnight, but learnt consistently. Keep at it. Keep digging into scriptures and listening for his voice. Keep being intentional about obeying what you hear his Spirit say. Practice God's presence until his Word begins to reflect on your life. That is how we are made perfect in him. That is how we are meant to live. That is the blessed life.
