And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. Genesis 4:4b,5a (King James Version)
God did not hate Cain, neither did He reject his offering even though he did not consider it worthy; that is, He was not wowed when Cain lifted it up....
Cain was not rejected by God either... God loved Cain- contrary to what you feel about him- you only need to read God's conversations with him to agree.
It was not Cain's fault that his offering was unworthy. Cain was not evil, neither was his offering. He was God's child, but something happened to him along the way. That something was not evil in itself but Cain would not 'master it' as his Father-God advised.
Abel and Cain did not bring their offerings before an imaginary God unlike what our Bible Story annotations have conditioned our minds to conceive. I strongly believe that then, God still came to walk and talk with Adam once in a while. Cain and Abel knew God on a far more personal level than the surreal.... Theirs was not a presentation of offerings to an abstract God, like we do now, or like Abraham, Noah and other patriarchs did. Adam's sons actually brought him gifts, like children would....
One morning I pondered on the statement "And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering"... I stared hard and long at the text, no longer willing to dismiss the tug to 'know'..... then with a heart beating faster than normal, a heart connected to heaven's whispers, I picked up my pen to write....
I will be sharing a series of my notes on this most misinterpreted story of the Bible.... You may find yourself in Cain by the time we are through....
Come with me....
To be continued....
