When the Wind Blows….

So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking.... Ezekiel 37:7 ( King James Bible)

Sometimes it seems all hell breaks loose just after you have prayed. After prophesying as commanded and releasing God’s decree; after a deep time of prayer and receiving an assuring word of prophecy… comes a noise; a terribly frightening uproar, a rattling, a shaking… tumult, pandemonium, chaos, friction, strife, confusion, disappointment, commotion…. The condition worsens, the thrashing increases, the wound deepens, the pain intensifies…. Why now? Why me? Why Lord?

Oh! But look! The valley is agog because bones are reconnecting. Wow! The prophecy is being fulfilled already. The bones really are alive again! There go thousands of femurs searching for their tibia and fibula pairs, skulls clicking into the first of several cervical vertebrae; cheekbones and jawbones fusing, anklebones; tarsals, metatarsals and phalanges working hard to form feet… all over the valley, beneath the noise, underneath the hullabaloo… brokenness gives way to healing, shattered body frames find purpose, chaos gives way to order… The shaking is all part of the plan; it is all good.

And oh, just as he said it would be! Look! Sinews growing over the skeletons like new wine poured into a clear glass. Behold! Brand new flesh from nowhere covers them up too… Watch! Now there’s skin upon the flesh. Did you see that? Did you just see that… or in fright you have scuttled off from the tempest and missed what God was working through it?

Thanks to God who always keeps His word! Hallelujah! What He said, He has done….

So Ezekiel braces up for the next miracle… but wait… the breath… no breath! God had said He would cause breath to come upon them…. Why then do these men, being revived by the word of His mouth, still lie lifeless in the valley? No, he did not pray amiss because he simply repeated what God had said.…

Many things going through Ezekiel’s head – he had tried so hard not to run away when the shaking began, he trusted God and stayed through till the end of it – now there is some peace, some order, a big change from what used to be… but no life.

So he waits. He looks on. He listens. He does not murmur and complain. Yes he is perplexed but he also trusts. Under his breath he whispers another Thou knowest!  You see, the challenge of ‘no breath’ was another cause for alarm, but Ezekiel figured out that if God could heal the bones, and produce sinews, flesh and skin from nowhere, then the breath was around the corner. All he needed to do was remain in the position where he could still hear God speak to him.

Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. (Isaiah 50:10)

…prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord…’

It’s Showtime!

In Quickening Flames, I said that God always had a word for every situation, our part was to ensure our ears and hearts were quick to hear. The important lesson is to learn to walk with God per time and to set your heart to always obey.  Your ears must be attuned to what He is saying now. Every next instruction is up to Him and if you have placed your life in His hands you must be willing to allow Him alter it every now and then. When you do not understand what God is doing, be patient…. The fulfillment of the spoken word is a surety, for God himself watches over His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12). We also should watch Him perform it.

Ezekiel’s his next instruction is another interesting declaration. He has to call forth the breath from the four winds. Can you imagine earth’s four winds blowing at once? Ezekiel had just survived a shaking; now he has to endure a deluge of winds. But let the wind blow with all its fury, let it scatter a few more stuffs, let it cause a shift, an unsettling in affairs, a rearrangement of priorities; let it remove certain possessions, lifestyles, relationships, influences, etc. out of our lives – out of the way… In the winds blowing on and against you, is breath for the bones before you. The amazing Yahweh put the breath in the wind. He could have just spoken breath to the dead, like he grew the sinews, flesh and skin… but no, he put it in the wind… Today, like Ezekiel, you can command life out of your storm. O breath, come from the four winds…

Child of God, it is all good; it is still in your favour. The noise is to your advantage; the wind contains God’s will for your life.  But fear and anxiety will rob you of the beauty of God’s handiwork if you do not see it through to the end. The word of the Lord bears fruit when it falls on a good heart (soil) so stay in the will of God, keep your heart in a state of worship and watch God give you ecstatic experiences even in the valley. When all you see around you are dead dry bones, God sees an exceedingly great army, and with your cooperation, they will rise from the dust.

Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints, to those who turn to him in their hearts. (Psalm 85:8)
