Midnight Songs...

My friend Toki has been through hell and high water, but her head still has oil...
Let thy garments be always white; and let not thy head lack ointment. Ecclesiastes 9:8 (English Revised Version)

And when all is said and done,

The party is officially over;

Friends have packed their bags and gone;

It is just you and your seeming reality...

Staring at your stark true self -

No sugar-coating, no honey-plating...

Just plain reality.

Even then

You must believe enough in you to keep pouring some fresh oil upon your head.

If you're ever gonna make it through another day,

You must not let your mind be defiled;

And you must keep your head moistened.

No matter the voices that have 'spoken' already,

Let the last voice you hear be yours,

Repeating what God has told you.

Yesterday's testament may have been great,

But yesterday's oil is now stale,

Yesterday's songs now frozen,

Yesterday's music now forgotten....

Pour on today's ointment therefore

And be generous with it.

Long after 'lights-out'

Long after 'good-nights'

Long after 'pillow-tears'

Let your songs - not cries -

Pierce the midnight hour!

That is the fresh oil upon your weary head

When people think you're just gonna give up and die...

That is how you live again and again and again....

Live one more day Child of God,

Live today.
