“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. 1 Kings 19:11-13 (New Living Translation)
God is not always in the shaking
Does not always go up with a shout
Does not always speak in a thunder or like the noise of the sound of many waters...
A discerning heart will sense the aura of the Godhead (or the absence of it) and separate it from the usual...
God always beats expectations...
You expect Him through a door,
He invents an unknown passage and suddenly here He comes!...
Do not be so stuck in the rut of how He 'should' appear that you rush out too early
You may get burnt in the fire that precedes Him
Or blown away by the blast from his nostrils as he decends, or even get buried in the earthquake that heralds his approach...
The Lord is not always in the bustling and scurrying of physical expressions of service to Him
The frenzy that accompanies our praise sessions
The loudness of our worship...
The working of miracles...
Child of God, train your ears and heart to perceive when the Lord is in a thing
And when it's just flesh manifesting greatness...
Do not assume you know God's ways so much as to rightly postulate His advancement.
Yahweh intentionally unseats expectations
You may never hear him in the wind...
See Him in the earthquake...
Feel Him in the fire...
The wind He whipped up yesterday
May be His facade today...
Wait for His present presence, listen for His imminent voice
Don't get caught up in how he spoke yesterday...
After all, His name is 'I Am'.
Noise doesn't always translate to God.
He whispers too...
